Description

About the painting “Two Tenders of Katahdin”

At the Victoria Classic Boat Festival, I always found a wealth of subject matter for both drawing and painting.

My young daughter, Catheryn, would play her violin on the Embarcadero – an experience she looked forward to each year. I hung out with the boats and their owners, searching for fresh scenery.

While rafting up at Ship Point Wharf, I made my way to the bow of one of the schooners and stood looking at this calm site ahead and below me. It was the stern of an old great tug boat, the Katahdin.

As I moved closer, the two wooden tenders along with their reflections were a sight by themselves. Alongside the stern of this old tug, they lent an interesting composition.

Katahdin was built on the Duwamish River in Seattle in 1899 as a coal-burning steam cannery tug. Named after the highest peak in Maine, her services began by towing fish scows in Puget Sound.

Today, she is among the dwindling vessels in a unique club of octogenarian tugboats.

About Giclée

A Giclée is regarded as a museum-quality reproduction with its exceptional detail and color fidelity. Only name-brand, fade-resistant, archival-certified inks are applied to acid-free, archival quality substrates in order to produce the sharpest images possible.

Care for your Giclée print

On each Giclée print, we apply an archival coating designed to protect against UV light, scuffing, fingerprints and moisture. To ensure your fine art reproduction lasts a lifetime, avoid direct contact with the ink surface and do not position your print near direct sunlight or direct heating.
