Description

Giclée reproduction of “Camaroneros Shrimp Pangas” from the original watercolor painting by artist Scott Kennedy in 2003.

About the Camaroneros and shrimp pangas

It was early November in San Felipe and the shrimp season was in full swing. I was camping nearby during the San Felipe Shrimp Festival and became curious about the local shrimpers.

I watched as the camaroneros and shrimp pangas came in from the sea. The loaded pangas landed either on the long sandy beach or on the sand bars off the beach.

Four-wheel drive trucks drove out to fetch the camaroneros and pangas, sometimes driving deep into the water or onto the sand bars. After throwing out a line, the trucks quickly hauled these fiberglass-hulled pangas high on the beach – crew and all.

The crews hastily unloaded their catch and repaired their finely-threaded nets. They needed to get back out as fast as they could to get another catch. This went on for hours into the nights.

Some repaired the damage to the pangas’ fiberglass hulls caused by the constant dragging up the beach. Hair dryers were used to speed the curing and hardening of their epoxy fixes.

I took up my sketching and watercolor supplies and positioned myself on the beach not far away. Using the lighting had been set up for the camaroneros, I completed this piece over several nights.

About Giclée

A Giclée is regarded as a museum-quality reproduction with its exceptional detail and color fidelity. Only name-brand, fade-resistant, archival-certified inks are applied to acid-free, archival quality substrates in order to produce the sharpest images possible.

Care for your Giclée print

On each Giclée print, we apply an archival coating designed to protect against UV light, scuffing, fingerprints and moisture. To ensure your fine art reproduction lasts a lifetime, avoid direct contact with the ink surface and do not position your print near direct sunlight or direct heating.
