Description

Giclée reproduction of “Boiestraede, Faaborg” from the original pen and ink drawing by artist Scott Kennedy in 1973.

About Boiestraede, Faaborg

In this iconic village of Faaborg, my wife and I took ownership of Svanen in 1973.

We had previously found Svanen in Assens, on Funen. Built in 1936 as a traditional Danish workboat, she was made of oak and also had the shape and size that I had been looking for.

We had sailed Svanen down here to Faaborg so the local shipyard could provide a reliable survey attesting to the soundness of her hull.

While performing renovations on Svanen, we had rented a cottage in the village that stood in the back courtyard just to the left of where I stood to draw this image on Boiestraede Street.

We ended up living in this incredible community for a couple of years. During this time, we made many dear and lifelong friends.

Local lore has it that Hans Christian Anderson frequented Faaborg from his home in Odense. Many a sonnet originated here as Anderson came often to visit his sweetheart.

The clock tower, once part of the Nicholaj Church, was built in 1250 and can be seen down the street. We never lost track of time, as the bells would toll every 15 minutes.

I produced many drawings in and around this idyllic village and sent them back to the United States. My wonderful mother, Dorothy Kennedy, sold many of them.
