Description
Giclée reproduction of “The Twelve Meters at the BYC” from the original pen and ink drawing by artist Scott Kennedy in 1983.
The original work was painted onsite at Balboa Yacht Club in Newport Beach, California.
The Twelve Meters according to Scott Kennedy
The twelve meters Courageous US-26 was skippered by Ted Turner, aka “Captain Courageous”, winning the America’s Cup against Australia in 1977. Rendered here at the dock of Balboa Yacht Club, she is the old “race horse” to the new aluminum-hulled “Defender.”
Tom Blackaller, Gary Jobson, John Kolius and crews were here in Newport practicing for the upcoming 1984 Challenge in Newport RI. In that final race, America lost the “Auld Mug” to Australia for the first time in history – which goes back 138 years.
I took the opportunity to draw Courageous before going offshore aboard the chase boat Concordia to further observe and draw her and Defender in action.

About Giclée
A Giclée is regarded as a museum-quality reproduction with its exceptional detail and color fidelity. Only name-brand, fade-resistant, archival-certified inks are applied to acid-free, archival quality substrates in order to produce the sharpest images possible.
Care for your Giclée print
On each Giclée print, we apply an archival coating designed to protect against UV light, scuffing, fingerprints and moisture. To ensure your fine art reproduction lasts a lifetime, avoid direct contact with the ink surface and do not position your print near direct sunlight or direct heating.
